How to make website content updating effortless! (Part 2)

interviewed by Miss Hessler, Roaming Reporter

In part 1 of the interview, we left Ms H. in the office of DezignQuest. DezignQuest was telling us all about the benefits of a CMS for your website and you. Today, Ms H. continues her inquiry into CMS systems!

There are a number of existing website owners who still do not use CMS systems. There are many reasons why this is so, and two of them is probably the fear of losing the current website design or having to interrupt the online viewing of visitors. However, this simply does not have to be the case. DezignQuest speaks on how you can migrate to a CMS and still keep your website going!

Ms. H : Ok DezignQuest, during the break, you treated me to a mug of your outstanding coffee and you were telling me about how CMS systems could be integrated into existing websites.

I find that exceptionally intriguing and I strongly believe that our readers would appreciate knowing how they could go about doing this. Would you mind if we start discussing this topic?

DQ: Certainly! Before the break, I was speaking on the benefits of a CMS system and how it would massively simplify the task of maintaining a website. However, we were focusing on business owners who have never had a website.

Fortunately for everyone, even if you already have an existing website, you can still integrate it with a CMS system!

But before I proceed, let me clarify what we are really doing when we integrate an existing website with a CMS: in actual fact, we are migrating the existing content on your website to a CMS.

Ms. H : In that case… What about the existing design of the website? Would that be sacrificed when the content is migrated by your web developers? Some owners might still want to retain the look and feel of their current site…
DQ: Yes, we are most certainly mindful of that!

Let me elaborate on how we go about doing this: The first thing that we have to do is to put together a small team to study the feasibility of installing the CMS.

This team is made up of an account manager, a project manager, a web architect and a web developer. Let’s call this our “development team” since they are in charge of the website redevelopment!

Why do we need such a development team when installing a CMS? Simply because as an existing website, there are still many visitors who are accessing it and so the website redevelopment must not affect their visits. This is not a task to be taken lightly.

Ms. H : I’m sorry to interrupt you here but let me see if I understood you correctly: We can integrate a CMS into an existing website without disrupting the online viewing of visitors?
DQ: Yes, we’ve already done so successfully for one of our clients!

It’s a pharmaceutical company, Schwabe Pharma Asia Pacific.

If you would like to visit their website, it’s http://www.schwabepharma-apac.com

We are very proud to say that our client was extremely pleased with what we had done!

Ms. H : Since one of the main benefits of using a CMS is that it simplifies the task of website updating, would clients be able to customize the updating interface of their new CMS website?
DQ: That is without a doubt! One of the reasons why we encourage business owners to switch over to a CMS website is because they have spent much time and money on the design of their website, but updating it is an unwieldy task without the requisite web programming knowledge.

By implementing a CMS website, owners will no longer be at the mercy of web developers and will regain control of their website.

Ms. H : That is quite heartening! Please tell us more about the development team and how they carry out the website redevelopment.
DQ: Remember, before we install a CMS, we have to first study the feasibility of such a move!

At the start, the account manager will discuss the matter over with the client to ascertain his/her objectives and needs concerning the CMS website. Important factors are brought to the client’s attention and pertinent information is collected.

Thereafter, the project manager will take into account the information collected and determine the amount of resources needed as well as the expected man hours required to undertake the study. As the project manager, he keeps the development team focused on the intended outcome and within the deadlines.

The web programming side will be handled by the web architect and the web developer. The web architect will study the interface and back-end systems of the existing site to see if the CMS website requested can be implemented.

His web programming counterpart, the web developer, will conduct a number of tests to determine the implications of installing the CMS.

Once they have administered the necessary web programming assessments, they will present their findings to the project manager and the account manager.

The account manager, having been briefed by the client, will double-check to see if all of the client’s wishes have been addressed and will then proceed to inform him/her of the outcome of the study.

If the website redevelopment is indeed feasible, the development team will subsequently, continue to work with the client on integrating the CMS.

Ms. H : I can see that the development team is well conceived to handle the website redevelopment…

You have on the one hand, a pair of professionals who handle the managerial and client matters.

On the other hand, you have another pair of professionals who will handle the web programming side of things.

DQ: Yes, we strive to deliver results and the only way to deliver results is to have a well conceived team working closely together!

Now that our readers have a little more insight into what we can do for them, we strongly urge them to drop us an email at info@dezignq.com or call us at 6396 4125 for a consultation.

The feasibility study and the following installing of a CMS may seem a little troublesome at first, but we want to remind them that in the long run, our clients will only stand to reap a vast improvement in productivity! So please do not procrastinate on what has to be done to improve your business!
